Objective: Specific learning disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a biological origin, meaning it is based on abnormalities at the cognitive level, from which the behavioral symptoms of the disorder arise. In the pursuit of identifying the contributing factors to these disabilities, numerous studies have investigated the physiological foundations of learning disabilities.
Method: This study conducts a systematic review on the relationship between brain activity in children with specific learning disorders and the subtypes of these disorders. Using a systematic review approach, this research examines relevant scientific articles published in Iran from 1996 to 2023, using credible Persian-language academic databases. Study selection (through the review of 39 article abstracts) was conducted using relevant keywords, and eleven studies meeting the inclusion criteria were chosen as the final sample based on the PRISMA statement.
Result: The findings indicate a significant relationship between different brainwave types in children with specific learning disorders and the impact of these brainwaves on the subtypes of the disorder.
Conclusion: The findings show that the cognitive abnormalities observed in these children are significantly related to specific patterns of brain activity. These findings have helped to better understand the underlying mechanisms of this disorder and can be the basis for designing targeted therapeutic interventions. Also, the necessity of more research on the relationship between brain activities and cognitive functions is emphasized.
